A celebration of Australian Hip Hop culture will take place on Saturday, 26th August as the Melbourne Hip Hop community comes together to toast the release of "Skip Hop", the groundbreaking new documentary from young Aussie female producer/director/editor Oriel Guthrie. As its official Melbourne launch, the proceedings will be held at Saint Jerome's, Melbourne city.
An in-depth doco on Aussie Hip-Hop, 'Skip Hop' focuses on the many elements of the culture, music, dance, fashion and the message. It explores the popularity of Hip Hop from the male and female perspective right down to the younger generations at primary level. With interviews from Aussie Hip Hop veterans Def Wish Cast, DJ Peril, Hilltop Hoods, Koolism, Maya Jupiter, The Herd and Wicked Force Breakers it the first documentation to track the evolution of Hip Hop in Australia from past to present and offers an insight into where it is likely to head in the future.
The Melbourne launch kicks off in the afternoon with a live aerosol demo from a group of key Melbourne gr aff artists. New pieces will be added to the already outstanding display of aerosol art scattered along the walls of Caladonain Lane , a must for anyone who hasn't seen street art in action!
